Ania Knap Stained Glass Class

Ania Knap is a McGown-certified rug hooking teacher and recovering scientist whose passion for vibrant colors drives her artistic creativity. Her PhD in chemistry and artist’s view combine to define her unique approach to symmetry, contrast and color - artistry and emotion, expressed with the analytical precision of human color perception. Ania offers experienced students a new perspective on design and execution and opens a new world of expression for novices. In her work, she frequently mixes cuts, ranging from #2 to ½ in torn strips, to achieve a desired effect in her finished pieces; experience that she shares with students to help realize their own artistic vision. Anybody with an internet connection is welcomed to follow along Ania’s journey with the rug hooking blog she publishes in collaboration with her daughter entitled, “My Mother’s a Hooker” (https://aniacreativedesigns.wordpress.com)

Ania enjoys teaching open classes and helping her students to expand their skills; the goal is to enable their artistry – to guide students along the path to achieving their own personal triumphs of creative expression.

If you are a fan of Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass windows and would like to learn a few secrets on how to mimic these stunning windows in rug form them please join me in hooking the Solitude Water Lily pattern.

We will discuss the different types of glass used in Tiffany windows, and how to use wool to give a similar effect. The price for the pattern is $35.

Two wool choices are available to participants:

(A) For those who prefer their own personal color preferences, they are welcome to use their own spot dyed wool from their stash for the class. Based on my hooking in a #4 for following amounts are needed for the different motifs:

Lead (black spot dye): 1/16yd
Flower (any color): 1/32 yd (3in x 18 in)
Lily pad (green spot dye): 1/32yd
Water (blue spot dye): 1/16 yd
Hills (any brown or green spot dye): 1/32 yd
Sky ( another blue spot dye): 1/8 yd

(B) A wool kit to complete the pattern can be ordered for an additional $40. Please note colors in the kit may vary from the photo above.
