Do you love the hooking but procrastinate when it comes to finishing? It is often said that the finished edge can make or break a rug, but what does that mean? This workshop is designed to inspire and expand your ideas on how to finish your mats while still maintaining a technically sound edge. While we will not have time to try all 26 finishes, one for each letter of the alphabet, we will enjoy hands on practice of several and discuss the rest.
Topics to be discussed include prep for fine finishing, whipping including good corners and multiple rows of whipping, whipping with alternative materials and herringbone, lacing and other framing prep, etc. The goal is for you to leave with enthusiasm for the finishing stage and new ideas to apply to future projects. Small practice pieces are included but participants should feel free to bring pieces that are ready to be finished for discussion purposes.
Students should bring: scissors and any projects ready to be finished. Instructor will provide samples for finishing, threads, needles, cording, yarn for whipping.
A nominal kit fee of $15 USD will be charged to cover all materials needed for this class.
